RADAR and RNID briefing
RADAR and RNID have prepared a briefing on the Single Equality Duty and current risks and opportunities.
There is a real risk that the Equality Bill will mean a step back for disabled people unless we show the Government how the Disability Equality Duty has helped disabled people, and why it is important to retain some features of the Disability Equality Duty, such as equality impact assessments and 'more favourable treatment' (in General Duty), 'involvement of disabled people', and action plans (in Specific Duties).
This is a great opportunity to tell the Government what difference the Disability Equality Duty has made to the way public authorities promote disability equality.
For a copy of the briefing and to comment please contact Caroline Gooding at goodingcaroline@btinternet.com as soon as possible.

UK Young Performing Arts Entrepreneur Award

is now open for applications. This award celebrates entrepreneurial young innovators and future leaders in the UK performing arts industry, offering finalists the opportunity to broaden their international experience by visiting an emerging performing arts market - in this case India.

We are seeking applicants aged between 25-35 who want to push the boundaries of the UK industry and have a vision for extending international business and cultural relations through the performing arts. Applicants can be from any area of the performing arts industry and they needn't run their own business as long as they can demonstrate their entrepreneurialism within another organisation. Applications are welcome from those working in either a commercial or a non-profit context.

Six finalists will travel to India towards the end of May this year to take part in a study tour of the Indian performing arts industry. On their return an overall winner will be awarded a financial prize of £5,000 to be spent on a joint project with the UK and India.

The deadline for applications is Monday 2 March 2009. For more information and application guidance please visitwww.creativeconomy.org.uk/ukypae

Arts Jobs
Action Transport Theatre seeks a Designer for their autumn 2009 National Tour of ‘The Fool on the Hill' By Kevin Dyer
We are looking for a theatre designer who will help the company realise the visual language of the play by employing innovative (low tech) digital animation and puppetry techniques, including working with small and life size puppets.
Development day - 6th March 2009 (working with 2nd draft of script)
Rehearsals -7th -11th September 2009 (1 week) 28th September -16th October 2009 (3 weeks). Touring nationally 19th October - 21st November 2009
The Fool on the Hill is a brilliant new play by playwright Kevin Dyer about childhood and old age. Following a successful research and development week in December 2008, we are now looking for an exceptional visual theatre designer to work with us on our national touring production in autumn 2009 with a potential retour in 2010.
The Fool On The Hill invites the audience to observe Miriam - an old woman who is slipping deeper into dementia, it connects the uninhibited behaviour of a ‘senile' old woman with the childlike curiosity and rebellion of a child and forces them to journey together in a beautiful, emotionally complex story about a girl who helps an old woman escape from inside her head.
Fee: ITC/Equity small-scale touring, £1991 fee plus weekly allowance of £390 + relocation of £80.50 where applicable for assisting in the making and realising of set, props and costume during 4 rehearsal weeks.
Please send your C.V. a short covering letter expressing your interest in the project and examples of your work by February 10th 2009 to: Nina Hajiyianni, Action Transport Theatre Company, Whitby Hall, Stanney Lane, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, CH65 9AE. nina@actiontransporttheatre.co.uk
