GALLERY TERMITES
A Collaboration between: Edwina Ashton, Jordan McKenzie and Aaron Williamson. Studio 1:1 Gallery, 57a Redchurch Street London, E2 Sunday 29th March 2009; 2 - 6pm. The modern gallery of art should be warned that, historically, countless art objects and paintings have been ruined through being eaten by moths, woodworm and termites and their greedily destructive ilk. As the British Museum recently discovered, it is desirable to take out financial insurance against such an eventuality, but that may cost more than the art is worth.

A hidden history of Merseyside
The 20th century life stories of Deaf and disabled women on Merseyside are to be recorded by the Disabled Women's Arts Project (DWAP) thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant
Up until now disabled and Deaf women have been largely missing from the records and archives. The DWAP project aims to change all this by capturing the direct and diverse experiences of Deaf and disabled women - uncovering and preserving a hidden piece of social history on Merseyside.
DWAP are looking for Deaf or disabled women who have stories to tell about their lives and would be happy for them to be used in a DVD and public exhibition. Stories may be about friendship, school life, families, being away from families in school, hospital, residential institutions, work, leisure or anything that illuminates life as a Deaf woman or disabled woman in Merseyside during the 20th century. Project co-ordinator Pam Thomas said, "We are keen to hear from any Deaf or disabled woman willing to share their memories of Merseyside. We want to capture the many and varied experiences we know are out there".
The interviewers are all Deaf or disabled women who have been trained by the Oral History Society in recording Life Stories. The material will be captured using film and sound, and will be used to produce a fascinating exhibition, DVD and visual artwork.
Anne Cunningham of DWAP said "This is a really exciting project; we intend to fill a huge gap in the social history of life on Merseyside".
Sara Hilton, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund for the North West, said: "This is a fantastic project for all involved and will provide a valuable insight into the experiences of Deaf and disabled communities in Merseyside. It will also allow future generations to appreciate how the lives of people from within this community have changed over time."
Deaf and disabled women who would like to find out more about how they can take part should contact the co-ordinator Pam Thomas either by e-mail at pam@turn-around.org.uk or mobile / text 0750 638 5330.
