Music Highlights
There's lots of live music to look forward to at DaDaFest this year, with a variety of performances from signing choirs to funk bands with an international following. Here are some highlights we have picked out for you.
The Fish Police
The beautiful Sefton Park Palm House is the host venue for A Festival of Choirs http://dadafest2010.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d690a99461871dd1e1... , happening on 20 November at 7.30pm. The Open Arts Choir from Belfast will be joining Liverpool's own Sense of Sound and the DaDaSings choir. The brilliant funk, punk and hip-hop band The Fish Police are performing at Carnival of the Unexpected http://dadafest2010.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d690a99461871dd1e1... at Tate Liverpool on Thursday 25 November from 7-10pm. Organised by people with learning disabilities for anyone who's not afraid of the unexpected, the event will have live music, dancing, carnival tunes, food and of course art.
Finally, don't miss the chance to see the international Krip Hop project at The Happening Weekend. With MC's brought together from Uganda, USA and the UK in a mission to get the musical talents of hip-hop disabled artists into the mainstream. As founder Leroy Moore said ‘Disabled musicians are in the music industry from Blues to Hip-Hop and Krip Hop continues this legacy'.
DaDaFest International 2010 commissioned Ugandan Krip-Hop musician Ronnie Ronnie to write a song for DaDaFest. The lyrics are in Ronnie's native language Luganda but have been translated into English and can also be downloaded. Call for Volunteers
If you or someone you know is looking for experience of working at a dynamic arts festival, then check out our volunteering opportunities. The deadline for applications is the 5 November. Join us in celebrating the biggest DaDaFest ever.
Roles include exhibition assistants, hosting guests, admin support in the office, interviewing visitors and more. Hours are flexible according to your availability, training will be provided and our volunteering opportunities are open to all. Expenses of £10 a day will be provided. Nominate now for the DaDaAwards
Nominations are open for the annual DaDaAwards. Conceived of as a way of acknowledging the work created by Deaf and Disabled artists, previous DaDaAwards winners have included Julie McNamara and Laurence Clark. With a prestigious ceremony taking place at the festival, and a limited edition glass award by artist Anne Smith, the awards are a celebration of the best in Disability and Deaf Arts.
The two award categories are: DaDaFest Artist of the Year 2010 and DaDaFest Emerging Artist 2010.

The open call for nominations will close on Sunday 28 November, after which an independent panel will decide on the winners. Artists do not have to have taken part in DaDaFest to be nominated for an Award but must be working within the UK. Nominees for DaDaFest Emerging Artist must be in a position of having recently started to build a reputation within their fields in the last 12 months.

Arts Council England Bursaries for DaDaFest - Deadline this Friday
Arts Council England has created a bursary opportunity for Disability and Deaf Artists and practitioners to gain funding to attend this year's DaDaFest.
If you are working in the disability & d/Deaf arts sector within England and can attend the festival from Friday 26 November to Monday 29 November 2010, we can offer a total £250 for travel and accommodation.
You would need to be willing to attend the following events [tickets will be covered]:
The Freak and The Showgirl At the Bluecoat on Fri 26 at 8pm
Breakfast at 8.30am on Sat 27 in the Bluecoat in a live link up with International Guild of Disabled Performers
Various seminars, workshops and talks throughout Saturday 27 and Sunday 28
Corpo Ilicito at the Bluecoat on Sat 27 at 8pm
All events are BSL interpreted except Corpo Ilicito and are in accessible venues.
The closing date to apply for the bursary is 29 October 2010. The successful bursaries will be decided by two independent decision-makers and notified by Friday 5 November 2010.

18 November is Liverpool's Long Night

The DaDaFest International 2010 Launch night is on the same night as the Long Night, so you can visit the opening of our ‘Objects of Curiosity and Desire' exhibition at the Bluecoat as well as catch lots of other activity happening on the night.
On the Long Nght the city centre galleries and museums throw open their doors late. This after hours celebration of art, culture and entertainment promises to be extra busy and engaging this year. Many events in this year's Long Night will be finishing after midnight, so you could even catch GIMP http://dadafest2010.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d690a99461871dd1e1... at Liverpool Playhouse from 7.30pm and have time to visit a few galleries after.

JUMp IN(tegrated) Dance Activities in Liverpool Workshops begin 8 November 2010
JUMp IN(tegrated are looking for participants in their 2010/11 dance activities.
The project runs every Monday from 6pm - 8pm at Liverpool John Moores University, Sudley Theatre, I.M. Marsh Campus in Aigburth Liverpool L17.
Last year the company created three full length works (including a dance for camera piece), performed alongside professional dance artists and is about to create work to tour in 2011.
Applications and interest from disabled people aged 8+ will be given priority in the first instance. No dance experience necessary - Just enthusiasm will do! Come and give it a go!

Peace Talks is a live chat-show event that's all about talking peace - Internationally, nationally, locally and personally.

Soap Box Films are offering half priced video projects with young people aged 13-19. The ‘Expanding Horizon's' scheme is available in deprived areas of Merseyside with a 51% subsidy! Take advantage of a unique way of developing peer education.
Since the Expanding Horizons scheme started they have worked with over 30 different youth organisations over the past 2 years. They have facilitated over 30 new and exciting video resources, made by young people for young people, and supported peer education work that is essential in getting young peoples' voices heard.

Artist's Residency at Holton Lee

Holton Lee is an open-access arts and environment centre in 350 acres on the Dorset coast. Its artistic vision is to become the UK's leading contemporary arts organisation emphasising Disability Arts and innovative arts practice.
With funding from the Arts Council South West Impact Fund, Holton Lee is able to offer a two-month Artist's Residency to provide opportunities for a deaf/disabled artist from the South West to utilise the creative workspaces at Holton Lee to fulfil their potential as a professional.
Previous artists in residence include James Wear, Tanya Raabe, Abi Kremer, Rachel Gadsden, Susan Austin and Lorna Giézot.

CinéSourds is organising the 5th edition of a European wide multi-disciplinary festival of Deaf arts over 3 days: 1- 3 July 2011. Shows, screenings and exhibitions will bring together two hundred deaf, hearing-impaired and hearing artists chosen from all over Europe.
