Lead Artist Opportunity - Milton Keynes
Milton Keynes Council (MKC) Arts Unit wishes to appoint a Lead Artist to work with the design team for the East Expansion Area (EEA) of Milton Keynes. The Lead Artist will be appointed in May 2009 for a period of 6 months. However, we are seeking an artist who is able to have a long-term relationship with the area as it is developed. The Lead Artist will work collaboratively with the design teams to help create an identity for the new community, develop detailed plans for 3 commissions and consider how the emerging community can be involved with public art and creativity in the future. Exploring Live Literature - A Litfest Research and Development Project What might you create with five days access to our auditorium space, critical friendships with Litfest's Artistic Director Andy Darby and Flax editor Sarah Hymas, and a materials/expenses budget of up £500?
Litfest's Andy Darby and Sarah Hymas will work with a writer or writers on developing a piece of live literature for performance through a group or series of meetings/rehearsals over 5 days. The project offers a period of R&D and there is no expectation that a finished work will be produced at this time. The project will take place in the Auditorium at The Storey, Meeting House Lane, Lancaster LA1 1TH between July - September 2009, with five days of meets or rehearsals with the Litfest team to be arranged at a mutually agreeable timescale. No payment will be made for participants time. A materials and expenses budget of up to £500 is available for the project with claims being made for reimbursements on agreed expenditures on production of appropriate receipts. Free digital film-making courses for Deaf people
The courses comprise 15 to 20 participants (in groups of 4-5) including a group/s of hearing participants. A BSL Interpreter & other communication support will be available.
A) 10 days City & Guilds Unit Credit 326 - Short Film Production - 9.30 to 5.00pm daily. First course runs Mon 11th to Fri 22nd May '09 with an extra day on Fri 29th May. Second course runs Mon 20th to Fri 31st July'09 with an extra day on Fri 7th Aug. This is a hands on, practical, production based training course designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to make short digital video films and become equipped with the essential competences to develop future projects. On successful completion a City & Guilds National Certificate for unit 326-Short Film Production, NVQ level 3 is awarded. An extra days training - MOBPODWEB has been included after the 10 day courses to address the digital convergences of TV, internet & mobile phone digital technologies and its content implications for multiplatform and interactive distribution.
B) 2 day Digital Chromakey production 9.30 - 5.00pm daily
First course runs Tues 26th to Wed 27th May '09 Second course runs Wed 5th to Thurs 6th Aug '09 Using professional DV camcorders, participants learn the principles of Chromakey in a fully equipped blue screen studio and using Macs for compositing their work with Final Cut Pro. Amongst other applications, Chromakey is used for BSL "in frame" interpreter translation. Previous practice with non linear edit systems or having attended WFA's ‘Intro the Final Cut Pro/Express is essential. On successful completion a WFA Certificate of Completion is awarded.
C) 2 day Digital Convergence MOBPODWEB 9.30 - 5.00pm daily
First course runs Mon 15th to Tues 16th June '09. Second course runs Mon 3rd to Tues 4th Aug '09 in Cheshire In response to fast moving digital communication technologies, this hands on module focuses on the convergence of TV, internet & mobile phone digital technologies and its content implications for multiplatform and interactive distribution. On successful completion a WFA Certificate of Completion is awarded.

Sound and Vision
Sound and Vision, Fashion and Music photographed by Francesco Mellina, Liverpool, 1978-1982 captures the fabulous fashions worn by the music fans inhabiting Liverpool's clubland. Picturing the amazing looks at a pivotal point when music and fashion merged to create new sounds and styles, now is your chance to see how you compete. Have we seen your ‘look' before or is it something new? This free competition is open to all ages and is a chance to put yourself in the frame! Francesco will photograph all entrants over two photographic sessions and the entrant judged to have the most individual style will have their photograph included in the exhibition. Photographs of all entrants will also appear on our website. The new deadline is Monday, May 11, 2009. The details: we're looking for 250 word submissions from girls and adult women (in any corner of the world from all walks of life). For girls, the task is: a letter to yourself at the age of 30. What do you hope you will have accomplished? How do you hope the world has changed for the better? For adult women, think back to your childhood - we're looking for letters to yourself at the age of 13. What advice do you wish you had? What do you wish you had known at that age about your leadership abilities and personal power? (If you're in the middle, like me, choose one or the other - or both!).
This is the "Legacy Book Project" of Ophelia's Voice (www.opheliasvoice.org). Depending on the number of submissions, it'll take the form of a publication of some sort by late June 2009 - the idea is to celebrate the wisdom girls can share with their peers and adult women, and vice versa. INTERNATIONALE: Radicalizing internationalism in the arts
May 16th & 17th at The Bluecoat, Liverpool. Are you an artist who works internationally, or are you interested to explore the possibilities of international artistic encounters? INTERNATIONALE is a two-day social event that will creatively explore and generate critical thinking and political awareness around artistic international encounters. Using an Open Space approach to discussion, artists' presentations and a creative performative laboratory, INTERNATIONALE aims to develop and contribute to the visibility of the transnational artistic network in the North West of England. The event will take place at the Bluecoat's Performance Space (www.thebluecoat.org.uk) followed by a party at the Static Gallery on the Saturday night (www.static-ops.org). Participants need to book a place in advance and are expected to commit for the whole two days. The event is free, tickets are available online at the Bluecoat. New folly ArtCast series released in association with moves09
ArtCast is folly's platform for public access to new and innovative art, exploring the creative potential of the podcasting medium.
For April 2009, in association with moves, the international festival of movement on screen, we have selected five of the best new video works made by students based in England's Northwest, in response to the theme of moves09 - "Beyond Movement... What's Your Story?"
There will be five videos available to download or watch online. Starting on 24th April 2009, a new video will be released daily, throughout moves09 (23rd to 28th April). We are wanting to increase our pool of filmmaker facilitators to hire on a freelance/sessional basis, so if you fit the following criteria please get in touch (see bottom of message to find out how). Essential: Based in the North East England region. PLEASE NOTE: this is for sessional/freelance and therefore irregular work. At least 2 to 3 years experience working with young people to make films, either in formal or informal education settings. PLEASE NOTE: We are very proud of our genuinely participatory approach. The films that the young people we work with make are written, filmed and edited by the young people themselves - with our support and mentoring. Your project experience should reflect these values. A CRB that is less than 3 years old, or if you don't have one, willingness to go through the CRB procedure.
Desirable: Driving licence and own vehicle. Skills in other areas of media, e.g. graphics, photography etc (though this is not essential).
