Dana's Note
Dear Readers,
Just when you thought it was safe to bring out the bikini the clouds roll, thunder rumbles, lightning forks and in an unexpected deluge of rainforest proportions, summer disappears. No problem, we have plenty for you to read through this week while you're waiting for the next batch of sunshine to break through.
Yours, Dana

DaDa Disability & Deaf Arts Chair becomes first male Slimming World Consultant in Withington
Gary Timperley (40) from Withington is a shadow of his former self. Gary tried every diet you can think of to lose weight he even starved himself on ‘cabbage soup' and the ‘egg diet' in an effort to lose weight over the years. Nothing worked and his weight just got worse. However a close friend told him he was worried about him and that he needed to lose weight. Gary said "At the time I was angry with him because I thought he was trying to scare me into action. But the more I thought about my mum the more I knew I had to do something". In January 2006 Gary joined the Slimming World group at Withington Methodist Church - a move he says ‘has changed my life completely'. "I lost 4lbs in the first week and continued to lose weight every week. The group is great , really supportive and they pick you up when you are down. I love group so much that I have decided to become a consultant as I want to share my knowledge and help as many people as possible'. Gary takes over the Withington Group on Tuesday 28th July so don't be afraid to come to Slimming World, it's fun friendly and it's the place to be on a Tuesday evening. Gary's Group meets at Withington Methodist Church 439 Wilmslow Road Withington every Tuesday 5pm and 6.30pm

Arts Jobs
Find your Talent opportunity

North West Closes Wed 05 Aug 2009. Contact: hannah.rapley@liverpoolmuseums.org.uk As a part of Find Your Talent in the Liverpool City Region, the Find Your Talent partners are in the process of developing a series of programmes to engage young people who are ‘at risk of missing out' and some programmes specifically with young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). For these programs to work most effectively the FYT partners would like to employ a number of Creative Mentors on a freelance basis to support young people in one to one and group situations throughout the projects.
We are asking for applications to be made to the Young People at Risk of Missing Out FYT Cluster. This cluster is made up of representatives from Tate Liverpool, The Everyman and Playhouse Theaters, Liverpool Biennial, The Citadel and KMBC, all of these organisations are running FYT projects working with young people who are at risk of missing out in the next 10 months. Next steps post application will be made by individual partner organisations, these may come in the form of an invitation to an interview or other appropriate process. All projects will pay at recommended industry rates for artists/ creative mentors which will be no less that £200 per day for face to face work with young people.
Each of these projects takes a slightly different approach. In some cases the Creative Mentor may also be asked to deliver creative activity where as in others the mentor's role will be purely as support for the young person. Initially we would like interested Creative Practitioners/Educators to apply to be in a ‘Creative Mentor Bank' enabling them to be called upon for employment opportunities working with young people who are ‘at risk of missing out' through numerous future projects. By applying to become a FYT Creative Mentor you are agreeing for FYT to hold your information on file for future employment opportunities. Please email for further details on how to apply.
