Call for Film Artist
Learning and Participation Project - Chester. After a successful partnership in 2008 Drake Music and Manchester Camerata will be joining forces with Chester Performs in a new and fully inclusive SEN project, working over a period of ten workshop sessions with a mixed group of up to 30 participants from two Chester primary schools; Upton Heath a mainstream school and Dorin Park a special education needs specialist school. Using music, assistive music technology, dance and film, participants will work together to produce a new music and dance performance which incorporates film. Some or all of the end product will be presented during Chester Performs' film and digital media festival, Screen Deva in May 2010. We are keen that this experience be as inclusive as possible and will have meaningful input from the participants in creative direction and the creative decision making process. At this stage the specific role of film is open and we welcome proposals and input from artists into its potential direction. We are, however, keen to include some element of filmmaking activity during the workshop period and would like to see film feature during the performance. There is also the potential for documenting the project. This project is a component project in a year-long series of Northwest-wide Manchester Camerata learning projects which are unified under the title Songs of the Earth and supported by the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. The project will take place January - April 2010 The fee for this project is negotiable. For further information or an informal discussion please contact Nick Ponsillo at Manchester Camerata on: 0161 226 8696 or email nponsillo@manchestercamerata.com Proposal Deadline: Friday 25th September 2009 Proposals should be sent to nponsillo@manchestercamerata.com or posted to: Manchester Camerata, RNCM, 124 Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9RD For further information: Manchester Camerata www.manchestercamerata.co.uk Drake Music www.drakemusicproject.org Chester Performs www.chesterperforms.com

UPS AND DOWNS AND WHOOPSIE DAISIES
(Dance Theatre) Robbie Synge and Julie Cleves Edinburgh Fringe 2009
Zoo Southside (venue 82), 16th - 28th August (not 24th), 12:15 pm (30 mins) Two strangers are poles apart in circumstance but equally familiar with life's ambitions and daily disappointments. Initially oblivious to each other's existence, they find their own strategies for dealing with life's events. Be immersed in the interaction between their reality and the fantastical worlds of their inner minds, and be led on a journey of discovery. Ups and Downs and Whoopsie Daisies is born out of the performers' learning about one another, in life and as dancers. Julie often dances in her wheelchair but for this piece she moves purely on the floor. Its unique and exciting movement aesthetic is born and evolved from the biomechanical interaction of the performers' very different bodies.
Robbie Synge and Julie Cleves' strong character-based performances complement and contrast one another as their movement does. Combining bold choreography and a clever and interactive use of set, the work is at times moving, at times shocking, at times comical, but altogether charming. While their movement is unique, they work with universal human themes identifiable to all and represent them in an engaging and visually captivating manner.
