There will be a culmination of one weeks R&D on a new operatic play - ‘My Mother Told Me Not To Stare' by Finegan Kruckemeyer this Saturday at Darlington Arts Centre. All are welcome to come along at 1pm for a sneak preview of what will be a stunning new production, touring next spring (2010). We'll be showing about 15 minutes of material and asking people to respond. ‘My Mother Told Me Not To Stare' is a deliciously dark operetta for curious children and their grown-ups about those children who did something naughty and got sent to the fixing kitchen, a place from which they never return'. ‘My Mother' is a co production between Action Transport Theatre and Theatre Hullabaloo (formerly CTC Theatre) with composition by Martyn Harry. It connects with an Australian counterpart led by Artistic Director Daisy Brown. Please RSVP to Diann 01325 352004

Using the Arts to Develop Leadership, Aspiration and Potential
12th November 2009, Cornerhouse, Manchester, 10 am- 4.15 pm The one-day course, ‘Using the Arts to Raise Aspiration, Leadership and Potential', has been created as part of the legacy for the 2009 ENYAN Campaign and has been developed following a period of research conducted by ENYAN, throughout the 9 English regions into how participation in cultural activities can have a significant impact on young people's development and can give young people the chance to develop important life skills such as creativity, confidence, self discipline, effective communication and the ability to work in teams. This course is suitable for anyone, professional or voluntary, seeking to use or develop the arts in their work with young people. It looks to demonstrate how the arts can be used as a mechanism to develop young people's leadership skills, aspiration and potential. It celebrates inspirational examples of young people who have excelled through engagement in youth-led arts projects, continue to achieve well and are an inspiration to both the youth and cultural sectors at large. The course also benefits from being part facilitated by young people who have taken on leadership roles within a creative setting. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course and a wealth of practical resources. Artsplan is subsidising the cost of the training in return for a short 20 minute feedback session with participants at the end of the day. The cost of training has therefore been reduced to £75* (normal training charges vary from £150- £110) which includes all training resources, lunch, refreshments and certification. To download the ENYAN ‘Young Arts Leaders' campaign document visit www.enyan.co.uk. For more information on the course and to book a place, please contact The Artsplan Team, on artsplan@artswork.org.uk or call 023 8063 0960. * This subsidised course fee is exclusive of any ENYAN discount schemes.

Arts Jobs
Freelance textile artist, Lady Lever Art Gallery
Closes Thu 21 May 2009 Paid (£15k-20k pro rata) Part time
The Lady Lever Art Gallery is now entering a third phase of redevelopment with the creation of a learning suite on the ground floor. The space will greatly expand what we currently offer our visitors and broaden our audience base substantially. As part of the project we would like to commission an artist to work with two local secondary schools to create a textile piece. The size of the piece will be pre-determined, but the final artwork can use a variety of materials. The final artwork must be durable in order to be handled by visitors and also create a mood within the ‘Imagine' space of the learning suite. The collection at the Gallery should serve as inspiration for the work and the Learning Officer will work in collaboration with the artist to lead sessions at the Gallery for project participants. It will involve working with two local secondary schools likely for only one full day at each school. It is a small, self-contained project. Applicants should be able to demonstrate: Experience working with young people and schools; Experience of researching, planning and delivering visual art workshops; Ability to work in collaboration with gallery staff to develop programme of activity; Be available from September to December 2009 to complete the project; Possess a valid enhanced CRB disclosure. Applications are welcomed from local artists by Thursday 21 May at noon. They will be shortlisted and only successful candidates contacted for interviews. For further details and to submit a CV and letter explaining your suitability, please contact Lauren Gould, email: lauren.gould@liverpoolmuseums.org.uk, phone: 0151 478 4143
