DaDaFest 2009 FULL PROGRAMME!
Resistance: Which Way the Future? Exhibition 17 November - 5 December Contemporary Urban Centre, The Annex, Liverpool L1 0BS
Tuesday - Saturday: 11am - 6pm, Sundays: 11am - 4pm Exhibition opens at 2pm on 17 November www.contemporaryurbancentre.org
Created by Liz Crow. Resistance is a national touring moving image installation exploring Aktion-T4, the Nazi mass-murder programme that led to the death of quarter of a million disabled people. Through the story of Elise, a woman who showed courage in the face of horror, we bear witness to one of the truly imperfect moments of the last century. Challenging a neglected part of our history whilst raising critical questions for today, Resistance is a disturbing, sometimes chilling work of art. The installation runs for 30 minutes, beginning at quarter past and quarter to every hour. 27th and 28th November : Linked event at the Bluecoat, School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BX Telephone: 0151 702 5324 www.thebluecoat.org.uk. Audio description on TV.

Currently, UK law sets a target for all main TV channels to provide audio description for at least 10 per cent of programmes. RNIB believes this target is too low. Ofcom, the organisation which regulates TV, has decided to consult people on this issue. It's a major opportunity to improve the accessibility of TV programmes for thousands of blind and partially sighted people. The consultation is open until 5pm on 12 November, 2009. Options offered by Ofcom for the future provision of Audio Description are: Option 1: No change. (Currently 58 TV channels are required to audio describe at least 10% of their content). Option 2: Double the amount of audio description on TV. (An increase in audio description to 20 per cent for all channels required to provide access services). Option 3. An increase in audio description to 20 per cent for the ten statutory Public Service Broadcasters. The 48 other channels required to provide audio description would continue to be obliged to audio describe 10 per cent of their output. RNIB believes that Ofcom should implement option 2: Double the amount of audio description on TV, across all channels. Please tell Ofcom that you favour option 2. You can fill in Ofcom's online form here:
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/access_services/howtorespond/for... It contains two questions and your surname and email address are required. The questions are: 1: Which of the three options do consultees favour, and why? 2: Do consultees have any further suggestions for future access service provision? If so please provide the rationale for these suggestions. You can also email the required information to Ofcom at 2009accessservicesreview@ofcom.org.uk Or you can post your response to: Sara Winter, Ofcom, Riverside House, 2A Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1 9HA. If you would like to write to Ofcom, RNIB have created a draft template letter to Ofcom for you to use. Please visit the RNIB website page here:
http://www.rnib.org.uk/GETINVOLVED/CAMPAIGN/ACCESSTOTV/AUDIODESCRIPTION/... Please copy RNIB campaigns into any correspondence you send or receive, to help them to monitor the campaign. If you would like any further information about the Ofcom consultation contact the campaigns hotline on campaign@rnib.org.uk or telephone 0207 391 2123.

Projecting into the Future
Representation & interpretation of disability in the Visual Arts. 9th October 2009, 2.00pm - 5.00pm, Carridgeworks, Leeds Disabled people have been represented in the visual arts for generations, although not without controversy. Whether as artist or subject matter, the presence of disabled people within the sector still seems to create debate. Projecting into the Future seeks to bring these discussions up to date, and asks ‘what is the future we want to create for disabled people in relation to the visual arts'? Open to all those working in the visual arts sector, the session will use Motion Disabled as a case study to provoke discussion and debate and including presentations from other regional inclusive or disability specific visual arts projects and organisations. Motion Disabled (www.motiondisabled.com) by Simon McKeown; a disabled artist from Yorkshire, uses motion capture technology to map the movements of disabled people doing everyday things. The real-time film of the individuals' movements are then translated by a computer into a 3-D replica. This motion is then transferred on to a simple animated figure and the computer-animated figures are displayed in a looped series of motion captures. As part of Light Night (www.lightnightleeds.co.uk) on October 9th 2009, these animations will light up the Leeds skyline projected onto the side of Leeds College of Technology including a brand new capture of Yorkshire disabled sportsperson, Richard Brook. In the morning of 9th October, Projecting into the Future is holding a smaller event for disabled artists in particular to share perspectives on how disability is seen within the visual arts sector (10.30-12.30pm). For further information and to reserve a place at either or both events, please email joverrent@adainc.org Projecting into the Future and Simon McKeown's involvement in Light Night is funded by Arts Council England, and produced by ADA inc.
