Chair earns £175 per day worked in addition to agreed expenses and reasonable adjustment costs. Contract: Fixed term contract for services, 5 days per year
Arts Council England works to get great art to everyone by championing, developing and investing in artists and artistic experiences that enrich people's lives. As the national development agency for the arts, we support a range of artistic activities from theatre to music, literature to dance, photography to digital art and carnival to crafts. Great art inspires us, brings us together and teaches us about ourselves and the world around us. In short, it makes life better. Between 2008 and 2011 we will invest in excess of £1.6 billion of public money from the government and the National Lottery to create these experiences for as many people as possible across the country. Arts that reflect the diversity of contemporary England is crucial to our work. We recognise that disabled people are part of that diversity and that promoting disability equality is an important part of the role we have to play in supporting the arts to be the best and most inclusive.Over the next few months we will be reviewing our current disability equality scheme and want to appoint an independent disability equality advisory group to support this work and help us arrive at a new disability equality scheme. We are looking to appoint 10 (9 members and 1 Chair) creative, passionate disabled people, with knowledge and experience of promoting disability equality alongside a familiarity and understanding of disability equality issues within the arts. Time commitment will be approximately 5 days over the period of a year.An induction into this role will be provided and all reasonable adjustments and access costs will be met. A daily fee for advisors will also apply. Closing Date: 12 pm Thursday 28th May 2009 For an application pack or more information please contact Sophie Larsmon, Diversity Team Administrator on: sophie.larsmon@artscouncil.org.uk 020 7973 5319 Arts Council England 14 Great Peter Street London SW1P 3NQ

Support Holton Lee
Holton Lee recently received news from the Arts Council that our Grants for the Arts Application was not successful. This has resulted in a loss of over £70,000 per year to the arts programme at Holton Lee, and the Arts Aspect can no longer sustain the posts of Curator and Archive Assistant.
Whilst this news is very disappointing, it does not mean the end of the arts at Holton Lee. Exhibitions will continue for the rest of this year, thanks in part to the artists involved, and subject to raising additional funds the arts programme will continue to have an impact on people both in the Southwest and further afield. Abi Kremer, an artist and member of the Arts Aspect Group, who regularly works at Holton Lee has written a response and invites you to join her in expressing support for the work of Holton Lee through signing the petition. Please see the online petition at
http://www.petition.co.uk/support_the_arts_at_holton_lee and forward this link to colleagues and associates may be interested.

http://climateforchange.fact.co.uk/unsustainable_unconference
An unconference is a participant driven face-to-face conference that sets its own agenda on the day and facilitates inclusive debate.
The UNsustainable UNconference comes out of FACT's response to Liverpool's Year of the Environment and the urgent need to establish a forum to advance the ecology and dialogue around the sustainability of society. Held alongside our first project that explores this question, Climate for Change, the UNconference invites communities of interest who have been engaged in this project and others who are operating through self-organising networks and alternative models of both capital and cultural production.During the course of the debate the participants with generate a Manifesto for Change; drafted by multiple authors, looking at envisaging and identifying the principles to adhere to, to live in a more sustainable world - a People's Plan rather than a Master Plan.
There will be invited experts, consultants who are participating in civic discourse on social change and climate change, and all are are invited to contribute. BRING YOUR LAPTOPS - BLOGGING, WIKI-ING, SHARING AND GEEKING ENCOURAGED!

Arts Jobs
Lighting Artist, Blackpool Council
Closes Mon 25 May 2009 Paid. Regeneration Arts Project Call to Artists: Four wards lighting project. Blackpool Council Arts Service in partnership with the Illuminations is looking to recruit four freelance artists to work within four wards along Blackpool's seafront. Funded by Arts Council England and Blackpool Council this project forms part of the Arts Regeneration programme of work. The RAP project is a two-year programme, of which we are currently in the second year. This opportunity offers artists interested in working with the Illuminations the chance to develop an exciting project. We are looking for artists who have a genuine interest in working with the community to develop light based work with the community. In year one of this programme we ran a very successful project in which two artists worked in partnership with the community and the Festival of Light, part of Blackpool Illuminations, to develop a piece of temporary illuminated work. The installation was displayed for three months as part of the Illuminations show, within the sunken gardens on Blackpool's seafront. The two artists working on the project found the interest in participating very high. We have decided that in order to accommodate this level of interest we will recruit four artists for year two, one to work in each ward* and produce work that will be exhibited, performed or sited within these wards.* A ward is an electoral district, for this project we will be working with Claremont, Talbot, Bloomfield and Waterloo, for a map of these areas please refer to http://www.election-maps.co.uk/electmaps.jsf. There is a budget of £5,000 for each of the four projects. For information on how to apply and budget please email laura.rodgers@blackpool.gov.uk
