Acting Courses for young Deaf/BSL actors
ALRA (the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts), the Royal Victoria Patriotic Building, John Archer Way, SW18 3SX Acting for the Stage: Weekends in June, then 5 - 16 July, lead by David Ellington. Acting for Camera: 19 - 30 July, lead by Samuel Dore. To register and for more information contact Amy Smith: asmith@alra.co.uk | 020 8870 6475 These courses- Acting for the Stage and Acting for Camera- are a unique opportunity for Deaf young people who have a keen interest in acting but have never really known where to start. Both courses are absolutely free to participate in, thanks to funding from the LSC. This funding can also be used to supply accommodation to anyone coming to us from outside London. Each course is led by a Deaf artist who uses BSL, which ensures there is direct communication between the tutor and the students in their own language. This means students become fully immersed in the workshops, gain invaluable experience and have confidence in their skills as Deaf actors. The students do not need to have experience; we are looking for people who are open-minded, enthusiastic, have a keen interest in acting and are committed to undertaking either of these two-week long courses.

Sustained Theatre
Sustained Theatre is an artist led initiative, funded by Arts Council England, which, as a result of Baroness Lola Young's Whose Theatre...? report, is tasked to develop the future infrastructure for BME theatre and artists. A network of artists is tasked with taking forward the recommendations of the report. At the centre of the network is the Sustained Theatre website. We are looking to award an individual, group or consortium the contract for ongoing development and maintenance of www.sustainedtheatre.org.uk, to lead on design and content development and maximise the potential of the website as a communication tool, which positively promotes Black and minority ethnic theatre and its work to the broader theatre/arts sector, regionally, nationally and internationally.
The changes planned for this key phase of the website's development is that responsibility for its maintenance will pass to Sustained Theatre from Arts Council England in April 2010. The project is funded for one year from April 2010 and will need to be independent and sustainable by April 2011.
A contract will be offered for one year for a fee of £10,000, with an additional sum available for content commissioning, and will be awarded to the digital agency able to offer an enterprising plan for the website's financial independence, growth and sustainability. Sustained Theatre is committed to diversity and equality, and we encourage applications from disabled people and Black and minority ethnic sectors. For further information on how to apply please contact isobel.hawson@artscouncil.org.uk.
The closing date for completed responses should be sent to
james.bellorini@artscouncil.org.uk by 12pm on Friday 5 March 2010.
