Writer's Wanted
"Me and Marilyn Monroe" rehearsed reading at the Unity Theatre on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 November 2010. ‘Only me and Marilyn Monroe get looked at every time we walk into a room' a disabled poet once remarked. Inspired by this, DaDaFest International 2010 would like to invite talented and exciting up-and-coming Deaf and Disabled writers in the UK to turn their own unwavering gaze upon the world around them and send us their new scripts to be part of a series of rehearsed readings at this year's Festival. We will be working at the Unity Theatre with a diverse group of actors on two scripts a day to be performed in a rehearsed read through in the evening.
On Tuesday night the evening will be topped off by a reading of a new play from America, "Krankenhaus Blues", by Sam Forman.
Are you a disabled or deaf writer who has a play that has never been performed in the UK and would like to have it read as part of DaDaFest in a top Liverpool theatre venue? Then please send a CV and some information about your work and the script to DaDaFest international Artistic Director Garry Robson via details below. All the work received will then go through a selection process and the final plays chosen will be judged by a panel who will decided on the plays to be read over the two evenings. We are unable to pay any fees for the work, but reasonable expenses will be paid to the writers. The writer will be expected to attend the rehearsals on either 22 or 23 November and the readings performances in the evenings.
The closing date for all entries is 31 August 2010. We will contact all applicants by the end of September to let them know if they are successful in their application. Dance Graduate PA wanted
JOB ADVERT: I'm looking for any dance graduates who might be interested in working with me as a PA. I'm a choreographer/workshop leader. I have no verbal communication; therefore I choreograph using the Simpson Board, an inexpensive but priceless tool that enables disabled people to choreograph their own work. The board was created by Adam Benjamin, former director and co-founder of CandoCo Dance Company, who was inspired by the methods by which I produced visual artwork. The Simpson Board is a flexible A3 sized laminated board covered in the words, diagrams and symbols needed to create a dance. It allows the user to indicate using their eyes or by pointing where, on a virtual stage, they would like the dancers to go and what sort of moves they should make. An assistant who sits alongside the user, reading the Board then speaks these instructions aloud to the dancers.
As well as being a choreographer/workshop leader, I employ personal assistants to support me with living independently however, due to the nature of my disability and the field of work I am in; it needs to be someone who has dance background. It will be quite an interesting opportunity for someone as they will get to be involved with the Simpson Board, attend workshops and performances etc with me. The rate of pay is £8 per hour and £33 a sleepover. 42hrs and 3 sleepovers per week. Driving license essential. Please contact Lisa Simpson lsimpsondesigns@yahoo.co.uk for full application details.

Opportunity for young actor

We're currently looking for a 12-16yr old, completely blind British teen, who has no prior experience of the Echo location technique, to star in the documentary. Filming would be next month, over 2 weeks (around mid-August). We'll be looking to get people in for a chat as soon as possible. If you're interested, please contact Alex on 0207 985 1702 or email alex.painter@princesstv.com.

Independents Liverpool Biennial.
18 September - 28 November 2010 Registration is now open for solo artists, artists groups, galleries and organisations to be part of this exciting event.
The Independents is an inspiring mix of internationally experienced artists, as well as young and mid career artists. The range of work has no bounds and in 2008 included film, performance, installations as well as normal gallery exhibitions. Locations were also completely diverse from one off street performances to more formal gallery exhibitions and included major locations such as The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and the Albert Dock alongside the Tate Gallery.
Liverpool has a thriving community of artists and many galleries, venues and exhibition location possibilities. However, from the experience of artists in 2008 it is never too early to start planning. The sooner artists register the sooner they can identify potential galleries, sites and locations as well as collaborators, funding, sponsors and promotion for their exhibition, event, etc.
Exhibitions and events can be for any duration, from a one off event to a major exhibition lasting the full duration of the Biennial. We advise that you search the archive to give yourself some idea as to what has gone before and what is possible.
NOTE: The Independents is not a commissioning or curating organisation and we do not arrange exhibitions or venues. All curating, location finding, organisation and management of events are the responsibility of the artist, group or organisation.
TO REGISTER go to the following site and follow the instructions: www.independentsbiennial.org Email: info@independentsbiennial.org
