DaDaFest with a dash of spice
DaDaFest International 10 presents ‘Disabled Women in India: Relationships and Sexuality through the Bollywood Lens' with Dr Anita Ghai Sunday 11th July 2010: 1pm to 4pm, Sandon Room, The Bluecoat, School Lane, Liverpool L1 3BX.
Dr Anita Ghai is an internationally renowned scholar and disability rights activist from New Delhi, India. She has written extensively around issues of disability, gender and sexuality from a post-colonial perspective. Within the context of India where many female foetuses are aborted not for disability but rather due to their female gender, foetal ultrasound serves as an ambiguous tool producing new forms of representation.
Drawing on her conversations with other disabled women around India, Anita will address how sexuality and reproduction are weaved with disability using examples from Bollywood films, such as Sparsh, Guru, Pa, Dosti, Black, Sixth Happiness and Iqbal.
This is a DaDaFest International 10 Trailblazer event. It is a free event but a ticket is required. For booking and further information please contact info@dadahello.com or call 0151 7071733
