DaDa Disability and Deaf Arts Latest
DaDaSings
As part of DaDaFest 2009, we are seeking to develop a choir with a difference: a choir that captures song and sign! Working as a partnership with Creative Director Ayotunde Falona, Sense of Sound and Sign Dance Pioneer - Caroline Parker we would like to build and create a choir that is made up of hearing and Deaf people - with only Deaf people signing.

Signing Auditions w/e 24th October 6 Choir rehearsal dates. Wednesday evenings in the Bluecoat Arts Centre • 28th October, 4th Nov, 11th Nov, 18th Nov, 25th Nov & 2nd Dec • Times 6pm - 7.30pm Final Performance • Thursday 3rd December at DaDaAwards - Liverpool Hilton. There are still a few places left for singers for the choir. If you would like to audtion please contact info@dadahello.com ASAP and we will strive to arrange a time. However, you can also arrive for the first rehearsal evening if you would like to take part, just let DaDa know in advance.
What to prepare for the signing audition:
• Have one song ready that you have signed before and feel comfortable with. You are very welcome to bring a CD of the song to sign along to.
• If you are not sure of the lyrics, we recommend downloading them and learning them beforehand.
• Don't worry if you don't know how to sign every word, your enthusiasm and expression is important to your performance.
• You will be asked to attend from 11am on the 24th October and will need to be available for the whole morning.
• You will need to book a place, so contact events@dadahello.com now!

DaDaFest 2009 - Nominations
Are now open for this year's DaDaAwards. DaDaFest 09 climaxes with the UK's only annual Award ceremony celebrating the achievements of disabled and deaf artists. This year it is held for the first time at The Hilton LIverpool on 3rd December 09 as part of International Disabled Peoples Day. Five awards are up for grabs and each winner will receive around £500 to develop their art work. See nomination form for more details as each award carries a different offer. (Go to www.dadahello.com/dadafest to download). Nominations are open to any disabled or deaf artists or group and can be self nominated or made on behalf of someone else. Applications can also be requested by contacting the office for a form. Volunteers required for DaDaFest 09
Dada is currently recruiting volunteers to assist with its 9th festival which runs from the 17th November - 5th December 2009. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers with an interest in art that captures some of the issues and experiences we come across as disabled and deaf people. Main duties will include invigilation, information assistance, event and artist support. There will also be a short compulsory induction to attend.
DaDaFest 09 takes place across Liverpool in several different venues including Novas Contemporary Urban Centre, Open Eye Gallery, the Bluecoat and FACT and from time to time you may be required to work across the city. Volunteers will receive expenses of £20 per full day and £10 per half day. This is a great opportunity for people to get involved and gain some experience of working on deaf & disability arts events.

Disability Arts News
Workshop providers wanted
Creative Partnerships is looking for authors/practitioners (drama/dance, etc) who work in primary schools and can provide workshops in a school for hearing-impaired children, inspired by books and intended to improve emotional literacy. Workshops will be held at a school in Bolton, with seven and eight year olds. More information will be provided at a later stage, but practitioners will be involved in the entire process, working with teachers and pupils to develop a workshop meeting the pupils' needs and demands. The pupil-led aspect of the project is important and they'll also be involved in the interview process when choosing practitioners. Contact Creative Agent Rachel Broady r.broady@mmu.ac.uk

COMPETITIVE COMMISSIONING PROCESS
Wigan Pier Theatre Company would like to commission a 70-minute play for its resident Community Theatre group, which is made up of around 20 members aged between 16 and 60 with a good balance of males and females. The first phase of this process will involve North West writers submitting an outline of their idea for a play on the theme of ‘Wicked Wigan'. This should be accompanied by a covering letter, writing CV and 2 pages of dialogue. The deadline for submitting proposals is 30th October 2009. Please email to mpj.green@wlct.org or post to North West Playwrights, 18 Express Networks, 1 George Leigh Street, Manchester M4 5DL. Four writers will then be offered a mini-commission of £200 each to produce 15 to 20 pages of script. These extracts must be ready by the beginning of January 2010 so that the group can rehearse at their weekly sessions for performance at the Wigan & Leigh Words Festival on 10th April 2010. One of the four finalists will be selected to develop the full 70-minute play for the group. This will involve a whole year of development ready for performance in the Spring of 2011. Subject to funding, the writer will be offered a fee in line with Writers' Guild of Great Britain guidelines.

Remark! is looking for dynamic individuals to join our team!
We are a Deaf-led production company established in 1999 making broadcast programming for the Deaf community. We are looking for a range of talent from presenters, researchers, trainee camera operators, directors, producers and editors.
CURRENT VACANCIES:
1 - 'Under the Lamp' - Presenter
Remark! are proud to announce that they have been commissioned for a second series of this successful chat show from the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust. We are now looking for a dynamic and inquisitive Presenter of any age to lead this show in its second series. You must be a well-motivated individual, full of confidence and charisma to be able to chat to, question and charm all of our guests to draw out the best possible interviews. You will need to have a proven record of working under your own initiative in a professional environment and be involved in the Deaf Community. Applications are especially welcome from those with a background in TV and Media Work. You will need good native BSL/English skills. The work will involve working closely with a producer and director, preparation work to learn about the guests and overall structure of each show, taking instructions from the producer and director on set and also using your own initiative - you will be a key part of controlling the flow of the interviews by keeping them on track and to time. Finally good stamina is a requirement as filming days can be intensive. The work will be on a freelance basis and you will need to be available for weekend work. 2 - Wicked - Presenter
Do you want to experience the glamorous life of a television presenter travelling all over the U.K? If so you may have a chance be working with a fabulous deaf television crew for a deaf programme called Wicked as it roams the country interviewing people in its famous VW Campie Van.
This role is for someone who likes being in front of the camera and has a confident, warm personality. You will need to have good native BSL/English skills, be able to learn your lines, have a natural curiosity about people, have stamina and be a team player to muck in. The work involves preparing for the role by reading background information, working closely with the instructions of a producer and director on location and being able to bring the best out of interviewees whilst bringing your humour, energy and enthusiasm to the screen. 3 - TV Researcher
Remark is looking to recruit a new researcher to it's Deaf production team. This is an opportunity to work right in the centre of a busy production. You will be working directly with Producers and we are looking for someone who is keen to increase and develop their skills with a passion for Deaf TV. We are looking for someone who has these essential qualities.
1 - Initiative - you will need to generate ideas and think on your feet to find stories, contributors and problem solve. You will need to be able to assimilate information quickly and interpret instructions from Producers and Directors to make ideas turn into reality. You will need to be proactive and energetic. 2 - Persuasive skills - Good people skills are the key to research - you will need to find and persuade contributors to take part, get access to interesting and new locations, liaise with official bodies and look after contributors on location. Good English skills or else experience of working with a CSW is an advantage here. 3 - Organisational skills - You will need to have excellent personal discipline to organise your own workload which will involve good prioritising, being able to work effectively to deadlines often under pressure, be able to present your research work clearly to others. Good attention to detail is essential. 4 - A contacts book and phone bursting with contacts from the Deaf Community. You will need to have an excellent knowledge of the Deaf Community and its networks. Liverpool City Council in Partnership with Liverpool NHS Primary Care Trust. Now Open for Applications - (deadline 30 November 2009 6pm) The application period is now open for small grants for projects that support: Innovation, Health & Well Being, Public Facing Activities, Creative and Artistic Community Activity. Proposals for grants up to a maximum of £5000 for projects taking place during April-December 2010.
