Dana's Note
Hello to you all,
It's been a busy week here at DaDaLand with many visitors and new faces. If you haven't been along to draw on our door yet (yes, you really can!) do feel free. We've got lots of young people's opportunities this week and a great deal more besides so while your pondering how to replica that Picasso, have a read of this.
Yours, Dana.

Architecture For Everyone
Architecture for Everyone is a three year, nationwide campaign, founded on the belief that built environment professionals who reflect the diversity of the society they serve have a better chance of creating a built environment that meets the needs of society. The campaign therefore aims to identify and support new and emerging architectural talent from amongst social groups that have been traditionally excluded from entering
and sustaining a career in the profession.
The campaign nationally is being led by Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust and international architects RMJM, with Places Matter! leading in the Northwest. In this, the campaign's second year, 30 young people from Liverpool and Manchester are being invited to participate in a series of
workshops taking place from February to April 2010. The project specifically targets young people from black and minority ethnic (B&ME)
groups and males and females from underprivileged backgrounds.
The workshops will see young people learning about the city in which they live and working to develop proposals that would improve it in the future.
They will undertake a wide range of activities, from city tours to working with Urbanfree runners Parkour to see the city in a new light; writing
briefs to developing design solutions and using a wide range of tools from drawing to multi-media work. The workshops will conclude with a presentation evening in April in the milkandsugar Gallery space, Liverpool.
The Northwest programme seeks to give participants the opportunity to:
• Work on a design project that will see the development of a wide range of skills and knowledge that will help them with their chosen career;
• Meet successful design professionals from the region, helping to breakdown preconceptions about the type of people that have a successful career in the sector;
• Use the built environment as a means of supporting key curriculum aims, including subjects such as geography, art and maths.
If you require any further information please contact Jo Harrop on 0151
703 0135 or email jo.harrop@placesmatter.co.uk
The closing date for applications is 1st February. Please note that the
workshops are a mixture of weekdays and weekends.

Chinese Dance classes
MDI is running a taster series of five Chinese Dance classes in January and February 2010. The first 3 classes will be taught by Paul Win with the final 2 sessions led by Fenfen Huang. Paul Win's classes - Intermediate Level - Wednesday 20th and 27th January 2010 (first class was last week). The class is set at an intermediate level. Dancers should have competent experience in either, traditional Jazz, Ballet or Contemporary. The style of dance is a fusion of Contemporary, (mainly Limone, Release and Graham technique), and Chinese martial arts with strong influences of Tai Chi and Wu Shu. The blending of techniques creates an evocative and sensitive style of dance, working upon the Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang and of channelling energy through the body into movement. The class will introduce a set of warm up exercises, which will lead to a set adage. The class will finish with a combination that is stylistically Chinese, both in technique and in gesture. Fenfen Huang's classes - Open Level - Wednesday 3rd and 10th January 2010. Chinese Classical & Folk Dance ( Mongolian, Tibetan, Xinjiang Uygur,Dai, Fan, Ribbon) The class is open to all levels of dancer who come either for personal interest or for professional purpose. A session will consist of Classical Chinese dance warmups, three Chinese ethnic dances for which we will learn basic posture, gesture and movements as well as a short sequence, and cool down. Chinese folk dance is also called Chinese ethnic dance which embraces the strong cultural context of each ethnic group including ritural, belief, customs and religion. These dances differ greatly from each other in movement, expression and emotion but share the affinity in terms of expressiveness and symbolism. MDI's Chinese Dance class is open to adults over 16 years old. Teacher: Paul Win/Fenfen Huang Wednesday 7.00pm - 8.00pm MDI Studio, 24 Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BX

Female Dancer, Wired Aerial Theatre
Wired Aerial Theatre are seeking one new female company member to perform the role of Rosa in their latest outdoor touring production, ‘Rosa's Bar'.
Skills and experience required: Experience in one or more of gymnastics, partnering (lifting and being lifted) and contact improvisation is a prerequisite for application. We seek a dancer with great stage presence and experience in using theatre within dance performance. Someone who realises and can adapt to the difference in performance when performing to an outdoor audience as oppose to those in a theatre. In between festival performances we will extend the aerial training to involve vertical wall work. This will broaden your skill base and provide the opportunity to work with Wired on other productions in the future.
The audition will include full aerobic warm up, bungee-assisted dance class and aerial partnering, and theatrical play with movement improvisation. Audition Date: Saturday 13th February 10am - 7pm The Higher Space, 10 Cotton Street, Liverpool, L3 7DY.
