TIME TO PLAY RESEARCH PROGRAMME:
UNIQUE CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) OPPORTUNITY FOR DISABLED ARTISTS The Aspire Trust is currently recruiting for its innovative new CPD programme for Disabled Artists: the Time to Play Research Programme. The Time to Play Research Programme is designed to develop Disabled Artists skills as artist researchers. It has been produced in partnership with the South Asian dance company, Chaturangan, and is composed of three integrated modules: * Arts Based Educational Research Skills: this module provides an introduction to the field and training in the associated skills;
* Workshop Skills: this module provides skills in leading culturally diverse dance and ICT; * Transnational exchange; this module enables participants to apply their skills within an international context with partners in either Greece, Portugal, Lithuania or Lativa. We are now looking to recruit disabled artists to take part in the programme which will run for one year from March 2010 and will involve one transnational

The Aspire Trust is the Wallasey-based Arts Education and Creative Industries Development Agency which works in the field of creative and innovative support for schools and communities. It has been developing a body of expertise in Arts Based Education Research (ABER) since 2007 and convenes the ABER Special Interest Group for the British Educational Research Association. Chaturangan is a development initiative for South Asian Dance in the North West. It initiates and supports the development of South Asian dance - from the popular to the spiritual - to make an impact on the social and cultural fabric of the North West of England and aims to increase the scope for South Asian dance in performance,
education, training and community initiatives.

RUN AWAY WITH THE CIRCUS....AT THE BLACK-E
Tired after the Christmas Holidays? Exhausted after the New Year Celebrations? Feel like forgetting it all and running away with the Circus? Well now could be your chance...! The Black-E, Liverpool will this month play host to No Fit State Circus, a contemporary circus group based in Cardiff, and is giving the public the chance to join in and become part of a very special Circus show! No Fit State Circus produce professional touring productions as well as hosting a wide range of community, training and education projects for people of all ages across the country and are coming to Liverpool to host work-shops as well as a totally unique performance. The workshops and performance will be choreographed by Firenza Guidi, the world renowned performer, director and circus visionary. Firenza has worked with No Fit State since 1995 as well as working on other massive Circus shows and will be on hand to pass on valuable tips and advice during the workshops. The end performance on Friday 22nd January looks set to provide that little something extra! She is calling on all local jugglers, magicians, jokers, dancers, clowns and even Circus Freaks to become part of the production which is going to be set up all over the venue. Guests will discover performances in the weirdest of places - a clown in the cupboard, a magician under the stairs - anything is possible! No Fit State Circus and Firenza Guidi will be putting on workshops from 17th January. New work from Tanya Raabe
Tanya Raabe BA Hons, MA. Visual Artist/Disabled Artist, Shropshire has been Awarded Grant for the Arts, £25,980, Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Tanya was awarded Dada International Festival 2008, Visual Arts Award 2008, supported by Tate Liverpool with advice and consultancy to create: "Revealing Culture:HeadOn" a research/artwork portraying identity, disability culture and the Nude. This is an artwork and research by Visual Artist Tanya Raabe exploring identity, body image and disability culture, in contemporary portraiture and the nude: She will be delving into public art collections on display in Tate Liverpool and Tate Modern to devise a visionary portrait of disability culture, while creating ten new portraits of disabled cultural figures, past present and future. The sittings for these portraits will take place in Tate Liverpool and Tate Modern over the next 12 months and will be open to the public to watch and question both the artist and the sitter about who and why they are doing this exciting project. Live portraits will take place at Tate Modern through the first half of 2010 featuring a range of prominent figures within the disability world. On the 5 January, Simone Aspis UK Disabled Peoples Council's Campaigns Worker and Coalition Against the Welfare Reform will sit for Raabe, followed by Sophie Morgan, Fashion Model and runner up in the, television reality show ‘The Missing Model' who will pose on the 29 January. Deborah Wilkinson, creative producer of Reality Productions, will come to Tate Modern on 15 February. The final sitter will be Baroness Campbell, of Surbiton, D.B.E who is an active Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords and has developed a changing disability culture in terms of Human Rights and Independent Living, campaigning for ‘Living with Dignity' and the right to live as we choose. Baroness Campbell. Additional Sitters include: Sir Bert Massie CBE former chair of the Disability Rights Commission, has been appointed as the new Commissioner for the Compact, the agreement that strives to develop links between public, voluntary and community organizations. Dr Sonali Shah, social scientist, Leeds University, Deborah Wilkinson, creative producer of Reality Productions; Michele Taylor, Arts Consultant; Garry Robson Artistic Director of Fittings Multimedia Arts Sir William Laurence: is the Great Great Grandfather of Sergeant Surgeon to Queen Victoria and Granted a Baronetcy in 1867 of Ealing Park.; The people's choice!: this will be a portrait chosen by the public using social networks, BBC Ouch!, Facebook, Flicker. Raabe's research will be used to influence the creation of a series of portraits paintings/sound recordings/conversation sound-bites of disabled cultural figures, nude and dressed, past, present and future: Describing a contemporary disability culture exploring composition, shape, colour, light and form.
Tanya will be working in partnership with Tate Liverpool and Tate Modern in the research in identifying 21st century artworks on display. Tanya will be in these galleries doing drawings about artworks that relate to disability and the body and will audio record the public's responses to these artworks. During 2010 Tanya Raabe will be an Artist Associate of Fittings Multimedia Arts and be in residence in Tron, theatre, Glasgow making documentary artwork of the making of ‘Raspberry' a production, inspired by the life and music of Ian Dury: A work in Progress of Raspberry recently ran for a sell-out week at Oran Mor Theatre in Glasgow gaining 4star reviews in the Metro, The Scotsman and The Herald". All of this artwork will culminate into an exhibition to be launched 2011 Solihull Arts Complex and will tour nationally 2011-14. "Revealing Culture:HeadOn" starts October 09 and run until July 2011. Would you like to be a professional actor?
Do you want to develop new skills and gain knowledge of theatre? Do you use BSL and live in London? Then sign up for the Deafinitely Drama School which runs from 15th - 26th March 2010. This brand new two-week course is open to deaf and hearing people over 16 who live within Greater London. You will need to be at Level 2 BSL standard or above. Students will take part in a series of workshops including: Translating scripts, physical theatre, using BSL on the stage and promoting yourself as an actor. These will be led by a mixture of skilled Deaf and hearing professionals. Students will then make use of their newly developed skills to create a public performance during the second week. The course is FREE but a deposit of £50 will be required to secure your place. This will be refunded at the end of the course. CLP is offering a mid-career leadership placement to work alongside London 2012. The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games are responsible for an ambitious range of cultural programmes within the Cultural Olympiad. London 2012 is taking this unique opportunity to celebrate and highlight the successes of the UK Disability Arts sector Unlimited a high-profile celebration of disability arts, culture and sport. London 2012 will build successful and diverse relationships with the international creative industries and arts sector; creating a legacy of opportunities for disabled people in the arts. We have created a placement for a disabled or Deaf person to train as a Producer.
During this annual placement you will work closely with the agency appointed to deliver Unlimited and the Culture Team at London 2012. In addition the Associate will also receive coaching and additional support through Sync Intensives and other contact with Sync leadership development. There will also be the potential for some peer support from the Leading in London placements also participating in the programme. Project Coordinator, Cartwheel Arts
Cartwheel Arts is a leading participatory arts company in the North West. We are seeking an organised, talented, outgoing and committed person with excellent communication skills and a passion for using the arts as a catalyst for change to become our Projects Co-ordinator. We currently have just 2 very busy members of staff and a large team of freelance artists and volunteers delivering a vibrant range of projects in diverse community settings. The post is 3 days per week (22 hours) with the core days being Wednesday and Thursday. Salary £22,145 pro rata (22/37) plus employer's pension contribution (7.5%). An initial 6 months contract is offered. However, this is intended to be a permanent and full-time post, and we intend to secure the necessary funding to make it so. Practical experience is more important than formal qualifications. You will lead on a wide range of projects, but experience of devising and delivering collaborative projects in low income neighbourhoods and of working in the arts and health field, particularly with people with mental health problems would be particularly relevant. This post will share responsibility for the overall management of the centre and the smooth running of our courses, alongside the current in-post Centre Director.
