Training
Cultural Leadership Training for Disabled & Deaf Artists on Friday 4th December at 1pm ‘Leadership' is a complicated word. Is being a leader about your job title? Is it about behaving in a particular way? Can you be an artist and a leader? And if you are a disabled person, how does that change leading and leadership?
Interested in finding out more? Sync is a leadership development programme for disabled people in the arts and cultural sector, and part the Cultural Leadership Programme. With over 130 members nationally, Sync provides online and face to face opportunities for disabled people to think, learn, talk, write, reflect and find out more about leadership and leading. It's not about pushing a particular viewpoint; it is about encouraging people to think about their own perspective.
Sync and DaDa: Disability & Deaf Arts are holding an introduction to leadership session in Liverpool on 4th December as part of DaDaFest. It's a chance to find out more about leadership theories from a disability perspective. It's open to all disabled people working or wanting to work in the arts. Places are free, but limited to 15 disabled people only so please book asap by emailing joverrent@adainc.or events@dadahello.com.
To find out more about Sync, check out www.syncleadership.co.uk
Places are limited, there are a few still available.

Audition opportunity
Derby talent sought for future television, film and theatre castings. Oceantide Entertainments has teamed up with professional casting director Robert Earnshaw and actor/director Craig Sanders, to offer the youth of Derby a once in a lifetime opportunity. Ever dreamed of appearing in Hollyoaks? Waterloo Road? BBC's Merlin? The West End? But don't know where to start? Here is an opportunity budding young actors cannot afford to miss! On Saturday 19th December 2009, Oceantide Entertainments will be holding casting workshops in Derby, allowing anyone between the age of 8 and 21 years the chance to demonstrate their acting talent in front of key industry professionals. This opportunity is open to anyone between the age range regardless of whether they have had previous training or not. We are looking for raw talent from all walks of life. Those who can demonstrate a clear passion, dedication and potential in a theatrical environment will be included on one of the UK's most prestigious casting directories. There is a small audition administration charge of £30. Part of this fee also covers the cost of annual directory membership (1st year only) for successful applicants. Successful applicants not only get listed in the directory and have access to professional casting calls, but they also receive a membership card which entitles them to discounts at a wide variety of places including theatres and future drama workshops. Interested parties should register their place at the workshop online by visiting www.oceantideentertainments.co.uk/intakeauditions. Entry onto the workshop is by registration only. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept applications on the day. There are only a limited number of places available so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
If anyone has any questions or queries regarding this opportunity, they can telephone Oceantide Entertainments on 08718732393.

Creating Safety: child protection and youth arts training, Artsplan C/O Artswork
Contact: Rachel Preston artsplan@artswork.org.uk Creating Safety: child protection and youth arts 20th May 2010, 10 am- 4.15 pm, Cornerhouse, Manchester. This one day course is essential training for anyone working within youth arts, but especially those using more physical art forms, such as dance and drama. It will be of benefit to individuals and organisations looking to develop their own child protection policy and maintain standards of good practice, providing practical advice and guidelines to develop confidence and sensible structures around child protection issues within youth arts. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course and a wealth of practical resources. Arts Jobs
Waiting Rooms Coordinator, FACT (Foundation for Art & Creatvie Technology)
Closes Monday 14 December 2009 Contact: Tracy Fairclough recruitment@fact.co.uk Building on the Waiting Programme legacy through drawing together the array of projects currently underway across the city, developing further opportunities for new artworks to be developed in ‘Waiting' settings. The iterative artistic process - Artist proposal to delivery is not always a straightforward journey, Technical requirements are rarely simple & connectivity with local staff, builders & tech team means a number of stakeholders have to have ownership of the project for it to be successfully installed & maintained. Consultation - The process prior to the development of a project is central to the project being ‘fit-for-purpose'. This consultation needs to be visible, thorough and holistic.
Site-specific - geographically sensitive responses are central to making the project work - we have to understand the place & people. Incorporating ecotherapy into art installations bringing the local green environment into waiting rooms through partnership with the LCC Parks Service, instilling a sense of wellbeing & encourage further exploration of local parks/greenspace - having an impact on mental wellbeing & physical fitness. Local engagement & appreciation of the project once located onsite ensures that local staff & patients feel ownership of the work. Public Relations - A full PR plan drawing attention to key stakeholders, funders, communities of interest & press supporting the physical and technical infrastructure. Marketing the programme of work as best practice model. Sharing of knowledge & skills learnt. After-care - the needs of the project need to be thought-through very carefully with regards to placement, technical requirements and personnel maintenance capacity. Site as catalyst - Placing art inside the health centres is to stimulate debate and interest. We need to develop local community arts partnerships to work in tandem with the artists to ensure there is sustainability of interest and engagement. More information on the Waiting Room Programme will be sent with the application pack.

Artist's Commission, Green Close Studios
Closes Wednesday 16 December 2009 Paid Contact: Pete Flowers pete@greenclose.org Green Close Studios is managing a series of three innovative visual arts commissions for artists to explore, through their own practice, the complex cultural interfaces between environment, society and change within a rural context. The commissions are open to cross art form collaborative practice, and we welcome applications from artists working as a group as well as individuals. We are actively seeking artists with culturally diverse backgrounds to apply. Two of the commissions are worth £5,000 (including all costs) and the third is seen as suitable for an early career artist who would like to realise a small commission and develop their practice (worth £1,000 including all costs) The commission opportunities are being offered to artists as follows: 1) A Community Engagement Commission £5k- Artists living within, located nearby or with a strong connection to the area are invited to create a new work which responds to the unique environment of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. 2) An Innovation Commission £5k - Artists working within a national / international arena of environmental arts practice are invited to create a new work which responds to the complex cultural interfaces between environment, society and change within a rural context. 3) An Early Career Commission £1k - Early career artists are invited to develop the creation of a new work which responds to the complex cultural interfaces between environment, society and change within a rural context. Peer mentors will support the artist throughout the commission in order to develop a stronger understanding of working within the public realm.
